The name originated from the Tamil words milagay or milagu. It is related to the soup rasam. So let's follow the following steps that How to make Mulligatawny Soup at Home :-

For Homemade Mulligatawny Soup Recipe
INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

1/2 cup Split pigeon peas(Toor Dal), soaked {Buy Now}
3tbsp Rice (Soaked for 20 minutes)
1 medium finally chopped Onion
100gm Boneless Chicken, cut into pieces
3 cups of Chicken Stock {Check Recipe}
2 Bay Leaves
1tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves
Salt to Taste
1tbsp Coriander Seeds
1tbsp Oil
2tsp Curry Powder
1/2tsp Turmeric Powder
6-8 Curry Leaves
2tbsp cooked Rice
1tbsp Lemon Juice
8-10 Black Peppercorns
1 inch piece of Ginger
3-4 Garlic
1/4 cup Coconut Milk{Buy Now}


METHOD OF PREPARATION

1. Take a Grinder jar and then add curry leaves to it and also add 3-4 garlic, 1 inch piece of ginger, 1tbsp coriander seeds, 8-10 black peppercorns and add Salt to Taste and grind it well properly to make it into paste like texture.



2. Now take a pressure cooker and then add 1 tbsp oil to it and then add a bay leaf to it and when oil gets hot then add 1 medium Chopped Onion and then saute it well till it becomes translucent.



3. Now add 1/2tsp Turmeric Powder, 2tsp Curry Powder and mix it well and then add paste that we have prepared in 1st step and saute or mix it well.




4. Now add 1/2 cup Split pigeon peas(Toor Dal)(that we have soaked)and also add 3tbsp rice that we also have soaked, it provides the good thickening to the soup and mix it well and then add Salt to Taste.




5. Now add the 100gmof boneless chicken that we have cuted into pieces and then saute it for a minute and then add 3 cups of Chicken Stock which enhances the flavour of the soup and pressure cook it about four whistle are given out, this process takes about 10-15 minutes.




6. Now remove the bay leaf and chicken pieces and whisk the soup properly and then again add this chicken pieces back to this and 1tbsp Lemon Juice and add salt to taste and add some water to adjust this soup consistency and switch off the flame and then also add 1/4 cup of Coconut Milk to it and mix it well.










7. Now take a serving bowl and then add 2tbsp cooked rice to it, 1tbsp chopped coriander leaves and pour the prepared hot soup to this serving bowl.
