It is popular in South Indian and Sri Lankan cuisines. In this Sambar Recipe we have made our own sambar masala which is best, So let's follow the following steps that How to make Sambar at Home :-

For Homemade Sambar Recipe
INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

1/3 cup Tuvar Dal/Pigeon Pea{Buy Now}
1/2 cup Water
1tbsp Oil
1/2tsp Methi/Fenugreek Seeds{Buy Now}
1 tsp Cumin Seeds
1/2 tbsp Rice
1tbsp Coriander Seeds
1 tbsp Chana Dal/Chickpea Lentil{Buy Now}
2 Cloves
1 Green Cardamom
1/4 tsp Hing/Asafoetida{Buy Now}
5-6 Garlic Cloves
1/2 inch Ginger
2tbsp Coconut
1 sprig Curry Leaves(10-12 small curry leaves)
10-12 Red Chilli
1/2tsp Turmeric (Haldi) Powder
1tbsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder{Buy Now}
1 Big Sliced Onion
1tsp Salt
Water as Required
2tbsp Oil
2 chopped Green Chillies
Lauki(Bottle Gourd), Reddish, Tomatoes according to you
1/2tsp Salt
2-3tbsp Imli(Tamarind) Paste{Buy Now}
1tbsp Gud/Jaggery{Buy Now}
1tbsp Oil
1tsp Mustard Seeds
3-4 Red Chillies
1/4tsp Hing/Asafoetida
4-5 Curry Leaves


METHOD OF PREPARATION

1. Take 1/3 cup Tuvar Dal in a bowl and then add 1/2 cup Water to it and soak this for 1hour.


2. For Sambar Masala Recipe, Take a non stick pan and then add 1tbsp Oil to it and when it get's little hot then add 1/2tsp Methi, 1 tsp Cumin Seeds, 1/2 tbsp Rice, 1tbsp Coriander Seeds, 1 tbsp Chana Dal, 2 Cloves, 1 Green Cardamom, 1/4 tsp Hing
5-6 Garlic, 1/2 inch Ginger, 2tbsp Coconut, 1 sprig Curry Leaves and then cook or roast this at low flame for 2-3 minutes.




















3. Now add 10-12 Red Chillies and then also roast this for 2-3 minutes at low flame.





4. Now add 1/2tsp Turmeric (Haldi) Powder, 1tbsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder, 1 Big Sliced Onion and then mix it well and then add 1tsp Salt and mix it again also then roast this again for 2-3 minutes and then then switch off the flame and keep it aside for cooling at room temperature.







5. Now add this masala mixture to the grinder jar and also add little amount of water and then grind this properly to make this into fine smooth masala paste.



6. Now heat the cooker and then add 2tbsp Oil, 2 chopped Green Chillies and then add some amount of Lauki, Reddish and Tomatoes according to you also add 1/2tsp Salt and mix it well and cook it for about 2 minutes. These lauki, reddish and tomato for this sambar recipe is most important.











7. Now add masala paste to this that we have prepared in 2nd to 5th Step and again cook this masala for 1 minute and also add some amount of water to the grinder jar to wipe out the masala paste and then add into it also.





8. Now add the soaked tuvar dal to it and then add 4 Katori (small Chinese Bowl) Water to it and mix it well and then let it boil and when the first boil done then cover this and Pressure cook this at high flame for 5 whistle and when the 5 whistle done then switch the flame low and pressure cook this for 15 minutes and after 15 minutes switch the flame off and open this Pressure cooker after 30 minutes so that naturally all the pressure release from it.








9. Now mix it well and again switch the flame on and let it boil and when it started boiling then add 2-3tbsp Imli Paste, 1tbsp Gud and mix it well again and then you can it started boiling or bubbling in the picture.








10. Now take the tadka pan and then add 1tbsp Oil and when it get's hot then add 1tsp Mustard Seeds, 3-4 Red Chillies, 1/4tsp Hing and then mix it well with the help of spoon and then add  4-5 Curry Leaves and again mix it well and then add this tadka into the this cooker and mix it well.












11. Now Finally our Homemade Sambar Recipe is ready to serve with Idli or Dosa.
